Praying4Portland

The Praying 4 Portland planning committee is made up of Christians from several denominations, churches and walks of life.  We have a common commitment to pray over our city in unity. 

The idea for "Praying 4 Portland" began with a trip to Houston, Texas, in September 2009. Three members of Restoration Gateway Ministries traveled to Houston to give a conference at Love in Action Church. The last day  of the trip they were invited to participate in "Houston Loves Prayer",  a citywide prayer event scheduled early on Saturday morning. Houston is the third largest city in America, by size and population. Over 10,000 Christians gathered together and circled the city in a 38 mile radius! Houston was bathed in prayer and song for one hour. Reports were received of spontaneous  salvations, people leaving bars and getting on their knees in repentance  before Almighty God. Christians from over 4,000 churches were knit together across denominational lines and the results were miraculous! 

The members of Restoration Gateway Ministries felt the Lord wanted them to introduce this concept to Portland. They shared the idea with people from several churches and within weeks a date was determined and a team was assembled to coordinate this prayer event.

We believe prayer makes a difference and God will honor His promise:

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.  (2 Chronicles 7:14)
